How come my browser is unable to display chinese characters?

Most modern (less than 5 years old) operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux etc.) and browsers (Explorer, Firefox, Opera etc.) can handle display of Chinese characters. If what you suspect to be Chinese characters are showing up as empty boxes or gibberish, it is very likely due to 2 things:

• You do not have a chinese font installed. Go get a free/opensource one from the internet and install it. Then try viewing the page again. A good free one is Bitstream Cyberbit
• Your browser fails to recognize that the page content's encoding properly. You may have to fish around in the browser's menu and manually set the encoding to either Auto-Detect or UTF-8
