Prelude/Preparation

  • It is common to do the following “Qi\ Gong-” movement 3 times before starting the form…

  • Standing with feet apart at shoulder width, body straight but relax, Eyes level

  • Open both arms, raise tongue to touch upper palette, breath-in, imagine breathing in energy thru the forehead

  • Lower both arms, lower tongue, breath-out, imagine energy sinking into lower abdomen

  • Second repetition … open… inhale… close… exhale …

  • Third repetition … open… inhale… close… exhale …

  • At this point, imagine energy sinking pass the lower abdomen into the legs, reaching the feet…

  • Then inhale, imagine energy rising up thru the legs, up the spine… and exhale, imagine energy branching into the shoulders, and down into the arms and fingers

  • Body straight, relax, stay focus

I - 1. Opening Move 無極起式

  • Section 1, Movement 1, Opening Move, “Wu/ Ji/ Qi~ Shi\”

  • Swing both arms slightly forward with “Peng/” energy in the wrists, then press the palms down with “An\” energy

  • 1st circle: raise both arms upward with “Peng/” energy in the wrists

  • Draw both hands backward with “Luu~” energy in the palms

  • Press both palms down with “An\” energy, down to lower rib-cage level

  • Extend both hands forward with “Ji~” energy in the fingers, completing the first circle

  • Relax both arms downward

  • 2nd circle: extend both hands upward and forward with “Ji~” energy in the hands

  • Draw both hands downward with “Luu~” energy in the palms

  • Press both palms down with “An\” energy, completing the second circle

  • 3rd circle: raise both arms upward with “Peng/” energy in the wrists

  • Draw both hands backward with “Luu~” energy in the palms

  • Press both palms down with “An\” energy, imagine energy flowing down into the legs, completing the third circle

I – 2. Buddha's Warrior Pounds Mortar 金刚捣碓

  • Section 1, Movement 2, Buddha's Warrior Pounds Mortar, “Jin- Gang- Dao~ Dui-”

  • Swing arms slightly to left then to right, “Peng/” with the wrists

  • Swing arms back to left, “Peng/” with both wrists, continue guiding with both hands across to right side with “Luu~”, press both palms down on right side with “An\”, push both hands across to left side with “Ji~”, finishing a circle

  • Swing arms back to right, “Peng/” with both wrists, continue guiding with both palms across to left side with “Luu~”, press down with “An\”, transition into a “Luu~” to right while turning waist

  • Shift weight to right leg, stabilize, sink, raise left knee, step forward with left foot, push both hands backward with “Peng/” - weight remains on right leg

  • Shift weight forward onto left leg, swing arms forward with “Peng/” in wrists, then turn waist to right, “Luu~” with both palms, shift weight backward, sink and press both palms down on right side with “An\”

  • Make a fist with right hand while turning waist to left, open left toe, left arm blocks out with “Peng/”, step forward with right foot, follow with right fist - weight remaining on left leg

  • Drop right arm, then punch forward with right fist with “Peng/” and “Ji~”, guide left hand down with “Luu~” and “An\”

  • Lift right knee and right fist upward, then lower right fist down into left hand, stomping right foot down - weight remains on left leg

I – 3. Lazily Tie Coat 懒扎衣

  • Section 1, Movement 3, Lazily Tie Coat, “Lan~ Zha- Yi-”

  • Relax both arms down, half step out with right foot, present both hands in a circle to right side, left hand covering right fist

  • Continue down… left… up… and back to the center, crossing both hands, then open, right arm “Peng/” upward and out, left hand “Luu~” and “An\” downward – weight on the right

  • Circle with both hands, open left toe, then bring right hand down to join left hand on left side – weight shifting to left

  • “Peng/” upward and outward with both arms, lifting right knee

  • Close both arms on the lower left side, step to right side with right foot

  • Turn waist shift weight to right side, “Peng/” outward with right arm, left hand stroking from right chest down to lower abdomen

I – 4. Six Sealing Four Closing 六封四閉

  • Section 1, Movement 4, Six Sealing Four Closing , “Liu\ Feng- Si\ Bi\”

  • Circle with right hand while making a smaller circle with left hand, “Peng/” out, then “Luu~” back, then push both hands out with “Peng/” again, right hand face out, left hand face in, back of hands touching, weight on right side

  • Relax, make circle with both hands, “Peng/” out, then “Luu~” back to lower left side - weight on left leg

  • Move both hands back to center, crossing both hands, then separate hands downward with “Luu~”

  • Continue moving both hands up together over the left shoulder, then turn waist, push to right side with “Ji~” and “An\”, shifting weight to right leg

I – 5. Single Whip 单鞭

  • Section 1, Movement 5, Single Whip , “Dan- Bian-”

  • Relax both hands down… raise right arm, close left shoulder in, turn waist to left, open and close the 1st circle, then turn waist to right, open and close the 2nd circle

  • Make a hook with right hand, imagine pulling a thread of silk from the navel out with the hook, “Peng” in right wrist

  • Relax, and sink

  • Lift left knee, step out with left foot, shifting weight to left leg

  • Swing left hand out and back in, trace a circle around the lower abdomen, then move left hand towards the right hand, shifting weight to the right

  • Turn waist, “Peng/” out with left arm, shifting weight to left leg and sink

I – 6. White Crane Spreads Wing 白鹤亮翅

  • Section 1, Movement 6, White Crane Spreads Wing, “Bai/ He\ Liang\ Chi\”

  • Relax arms down… swing both hands left and back, “Peng/” with both wrists

  • Swing both hands left with “Peng/” in both wrists, continue the circle with palms out to right, completing the circle by bringing both hands back to left

  • Transition into “Luu~” by turning waist, guiding both hands back to right side and shifting weight to right leg

  • Swinging both hands back to left side again, turning right toe in

  • Move both hands back, bring left foot half step back-in

  • Turn waist to left side and half step forward with right foot

  • Close, then open right arm forward, briefly shift weight to right leg and turn left toe out

  • Turn waist to left, close and step forward with right foot

  • Open right arm again, turning waist to right side then back to left leg, right arm closing the circle

  • Open right toe, “Peng/” right arm forward, turn waist and shift weight to right leg, bring left foot half step forward, resting on the ball of the foot, weight on right leg

II – 7. Diagonal Walk Twist Step 斜行拗步

  • Section 2, Movement 7, Diagonal Walk Twist Step, “Xie/ Xin/ Ao~ Bu\”

  • Relax right arm down, sit back on left leg, open right toe, then raise right arm up with “Peng/”

  • Shift weight to right leg, press right hand down with “An\”, raise left palm up with “Peng/”, stabilize… then lift left knee, and step out with left foot , pushing both hands out

  • Relax both hands down, turn waist shift weight to left, move right hand up with “Peng/”, right foot half step in

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, press right hand down with “An\”, push left palm up with “Peng/”

  • Left foot out, turn waist shift weight forward, brush left hand pass left knee into a hook, push right hand out with “Ji~”

  • Relax right hand down, move it out, then fan in with “Luu~”

  • Turn waist shift weight back on right leg, “Peng/” out with right arm and shoulder

  • Turn waist and shift weight to left

II – 8. Lift and Withdraw 提收式

  • Section 2, Movement 8, Lift and Withdraw, “Ti/ Shou- Shi\”

  • Relax both hands down, right foot half step in

  • Swinging both arms in and out in a relax manner, right foot half step back, open arms, “Peng/”, “Luu~”, “An\”, “Ji~”

  • Raise both hands up with “Peng/”, redirect to right side with “Luu~”, raise left knee, push both hands forward with “Ji~” and “An\”

  • Relax both hands down, left foot half step forward, turn waist back and forward, push both hands out with “Ji~”, left hand faces inward on the outside, right hand faces outward on the inside

II – 9. Wade Forward Twist Step 前蹚拗步

  • Section 2, Movement 9, Wade Forward Twist Step, “Qian/ Tang/ Ao/ Bu\”

  • Relax both hands down, turn waist shift weight back on right leg, raise right arm up, close left shoulder in

  • Turn waist shift weight to left, “Peng/” left arm out and to the left, follow by right hand “Peng/” up and out, then “Luu~” down and across, turning body 180º to the left

  • Raise right knee, step out with right foot

  • Cross both hands, turn waist shift weight to right, right elbow strike out, flip palms down, then turn waist shift weight to left, left elbow strike out

  • Turn waist shift weight to right again, open arms, sink

II – 10. Cover Hand Punch 掩手肱捶

  • Section 2, Movement 10, Cover Hand Punch, “Yan~ Shou~ Hong/ Chui/”

  • Relax both hands down, turn waist shift weight to left then to right, “Peng/” right hand out, follow by left hand “Peng/” to front

  • Turn waist shift weight to left, “Luu~” and “An\” down with left hand, hook punching with right fist

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, raise right knee, block down and across with right fist, left hand covering right fist, stomp right foot down, left foot half step out

  • Tuck right fist in, block left hand down on the outside, then turn waist shift weight to left, open chest, strike out with right back fist, left hand pulling to left side

  • Relax hands down… right fist makes a horizontal circle at chest level, poke left hand out under right elbow, relax, then push left hand out, bring right fist on top of left hand, and crank right forearm down with “An\”

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, extend left hand forward, tuck right fist at the side, then turn waist shift weight to left, punching right fist forward

II – 11. Drape Body Punch 披身捶

  • Section 2, Movement 11, Drape Body Punch , “Pi- Shen- Chui/”

  • Relax both hands down, right hand traces a small circle, open and close both hands with “Ji~”

  • Right hand makes a bigger circle, open with “Peng/” and close again with “Ji~”

  • Turn left toe in, right hand sweeps out with a horizontal arc while right foot sweeps in

  • Extend right hand forward, then bring right hand back on top of left hand, pulling right foot back

  • Sink, relax both hands down, then bring them up with “Peng/”, continue down, open and close, crossing in-front of the chest, open again, bringing right foot half step in

  • Right foot steps out, hands crossing in-front of the chest, turn hands into fists, make a horizontal circle, extend left arm to right, punch right fist out while pulling left fist back

  • Relax right fist, turn waist and hook punch to left, relax, left fist out, turn waist and hook punch to right, sink

II – 12. Fold Back and Lean 背折靠

  • Section 2, Movement 12, Fold Back and Lean, “Bei\ Zhe/ Kao\”

  • Right fist hook punch to center, relaxes, follow by another hook punch, turning waist to the left

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, pull right fist back to right temple, tuck left fist on top of left thigh, weight on right leg

III – 13. Green Dragon Emerges from Water 青龙出水

  • Section 3, Movement 13, Green Dragon Emerges from Water, “Qing- Long/ Chu- Shui~”

  • Relax right fist down, turn waist shift weight to left, right hook punch to lower left, left elbow strike to back

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, right back fist punch to upper right, then right elbow strike to back, follow by left hook punch to upper right

  • Turn waist shift weight to left, right reverse back fist punch to upper left, left elbow strike to back

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, right elbow strike to back, left index finger extend to lower right, setting up for the next move

  • Turn waist shift weight to left, right hammer fist punch to lower right, left elbow strike to back

III – 14. Double Push Hand 双推手

  • Section 3, Movement 14, Double Push Hand, “Shuang- Tui- Shou~”

  • Relax hands down, make a circle on the right, down, then push right hand out follow by left hand with “Peng/”

  • Relax hands down, turn right toe in, make another circle to the right, bring left foot half step back, open left toe, turn waist shift weight to left, step forward with right foot, brush both hands down

  • Continue turning waist, shifting weight to left, cock both hands to the left side

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, step forward with right foot, left foot half step in, push both palms out with “Ji~”

III – 15. Three Change Palm 三换掌

  • Section 3, Movement 15, Three Change Palm, “San- Huan\ Zhang~”

  • Relax hands down, turn waist to right, extend left hand forward, open right arm backward

  • Turn waist to left, push right palm forward with “Ji~”, pulling left hand back with “Luu~”

  • Turn waist to right, push left palm forward with “Ji~”, pulling right hand back with “Luu~”

  • Turn waist to left, push right palm forward with “Ji~”, pulling left hand back with “Luu~”

  • Relax right hand down and make a circle, turn right hand into a fist pulling it down, left forearm “Peng/” forward

III – 16. Reverse Roll Arm 倒捲肱

  • Section 3, Movement 16, Reverse Roll Arm, “Dao\ Juan~ Hong/”

  • Step back with left foot, left hand “Luu~” backward, right hand “Peng/” forward, completing the 1st step

  • Relax both hands down and make circles with them, open left arm and bring it up, step back with right foot, right hand “Luu~” backward, left hand “Peng/” forward, completing the 2nd step

  • Relax both hands down and make circles with them, open right arm and bring it up, step back with left foot, left hand “Luu~” backward, right hand “Peng/” forward, completing the 3rd step

III – 17. Step Back Press Elbow 退步壓肘

  • Section 3, Movement 17, Step Back Press Elbow, “Tui\ Bu\ Ya- Zhou~”

  • Relax both hands down, “Peng/” right arm forward, transition into “Luu~” back with right palm facing up

  • Turn waist to right, bring left hand around to hug the right elbow

  • Roll right forearm out with “Peng/”, then press it down with “An\”, left hand stroking down from right chest to navel

  • Relax both hands down, bring right hand up, close chest, poke left hand under right elbow, open chest, right arm completing a horizontal circle

  • Step back with right foot, bring right hand around to hug left elbow

  • Roll left forearm out with “Peng/”, then press it down with “An\”, right hand stroking down from left chest to navel

III – 18. Middle Winding 中盤

  • Section 3, Movement 18, Middle Winding, “Zhong- Pan/”

  • Relax both hands down to right side, “Peng/” both hands up and forward with big circle, transition into “Luu~” back, pulling left foot half step back, then sink with “An\”

  • “Peng/” left hands forward with another circle, left foot half step out, follow by right hand chopping down on the left wrist, right foot half step in

  • Half step out with left foot, turn waist to right, raise right arm, close left shoulder in, then turn waist shift weight to left. open left arm forward with “Peng/”, right foot half step in, arms closing, weight shifting back to right

  • Left foot big step out, turn waist shift weight to left, left arm “Peng/” out, right hand “Luu~” down, sink

IV – 19. Dodge through Back 閃通背

  • Section 4, Movement 19, Dodge through Back, “Shan~ Tong- Bei\”

  • From last position, shift weight forward, “Peng/” left arm forward, turn left toe in, right hand “Luu~” down

  • “Peng/” right arm out, “Luu~” left hand down, then shift weight back to left leg, arms close in with “Ji~”, bring right foot half step back

  • “Peng/” right arm out, “Luu~” left hand down, then arms close in again, right foot half step forward

  • Opening again, “Peng/” right arm out, shift weight forward, “Luu~” left hand down, then close both arms in, shift weight back

  • Opening again, shift weight forward, “Peng/” right arm out transitioning into a downward chop, left foot steps forward, left hand blocks down, then jab forward with right hand with “Ji~”, weight on left leg

  • Following thru, adjust right foot, then relax back, turn waist shift weight and sit back on right leg, sweep left foot in and push both arms out executing a hip throw

  • Continue turning waist to the right, relax both hands down and swing forward, adjust left and right toes

  • Relax both hands down, sit back on left leg, sweep right foot backward, “Peng/” right arm out then “Luu~” and “An\” down, “Peng/” left hand out then “An\” down, shift weight onto right leg

IV – 20. Ground Punch 擊地捶

  • Section 4, Movement 20, Ground Punch, “Ji- Di\ Chui/”

  • Relax hands down, make a big circle and block out with left fist, half step in, stomp with right foot, punch with right fist forward

  • Relax hands down, right foot half step forward, punching to temple with right hook

  • Left foot big step forward, punching to temple with left hook

  • Lower left hand, continue bringing it up as a block while leaning forward, punch down with right fist

IV – 21. Chest Level Punch 平心捶

  • Section 4, Movement 21, Chest Level Punch, “Ping/ Xin- Chui/”

  • From last position, body rising up, turn left toe in, throw right fist out in a big arc with a back fist strike

  • Bring right fist back, adjust right foot, right elbow strikes out, left arm straighten to balance

  • Relax hands down, throw right fist out again in an arc with back fist strike, left foot half step in, lower right fist and tuck it in-front of left chest, bring left fist forward and block down

  • Bring right arm up and press down with “An\” while lifting right knee, bring left arm up with “Peng/” at the same time

  • Relax arms down, close chest into double front shoulder strike, then open chest into double back shoulder strike

  • Put right foot down, left hand covering right fist, open left foot half step out, bring right hand up, poke left hand out under right elbow, right fist make a horizontal circle at chest level

  • Turn waist shift weight to right, extend left hand forward, tuck right fist at the side, then turn waist shift weight to left, punching right fist forward

IV – 22. Snap Waist Press Elbow 煞腰壓肘

  • Section 4, Movement 22, Snap Waist Press Elbow, “Sha- Yao- Ya- Zhou~”

  • Relax hands down, throw right fist forward and out with back fist strike, left foot half step in

  • Left foot half step back out again, relax right hand down on left side, turn waist shift weight to left, open right toe, then turn waist shift weight forward, pressing right elbow out and down on right side

IV – 23. Head-on Punch 當頭炮

  • Section 4, Movement 23, Head-on Punch, “Dang- Tou/ Pao\”

  • Relax hands down, punch both fists forward, left foot half step in

  • Grab and pull down to left side with both hands, strike forward with both fists, pull them down while stomping right foot half step back

  • Left foot half step forward, shift weight forward, punch out with both fists

IV – 24. Closing Move 收式

  • Section 4, Movement 24, Closing Move, “Shou- Shi\”

  • Relax hands down and swing to the back, then shift weight forward onto left leg, arms forward with “Peng/”, then turn waist back with “Luu~”, sink with “An\”

  • Block left hand out, extend right hand forward while stepping forward with right foot, then pull right hand back on top of left hand, bring right foot back, sink

  • Though the form ends here, it is common to do the following “Qi\ Gong-” movement before finishing:

  • Open both arms up, breath-in, imagine gathering energy thru the forehead

  • Lower both arms, breath-out, imagine energy sinking into lower abdomen

  • Second repetition … open both arms at waist level, breath-in, imagine bringing energy in thru the navel

  • Lower both arms, breath-out, imagine energy sinking into the legs

  • Third repetition … extend both arms forward and down to ground level, then inhale, imagine bringing energy in thru the feet, rising up the legs… then exhale, imagine energy flowing from lower back to the front abdomen, sink

  • Final repetition … Open both arms up, breath-in, imagine gathering energy thru the forehead

  • Lower both arms, breath-out, imagine energy sinking into lower abdomen

  • Body straight, relax… end of practice session
